The Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s bestselling novel finally has an actress after the widely publicized search which threw around big names like Kristen Stewart and Natalie Portman. The coveted role of Lisbeth Salander, a math genius and computer hacker with a punk edge, will be going to actress Rooney Mara. Previously seen in A Nightmare on Elm Street, and soon seen on the big screen in The Social Network alongside Justin Timberlake, the New York City actress is the great-granddaughter of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney and Giants founder Tim Mara.

Best-Selling book to Highly-Anticipated Film

News has circulated around the behind the scenes deals for the film adaptation that many are highly interested in seeing, and a lot of the pressure was on for filling the shoes of Lisbeth. Alongside Mara, actor Daniel Craig will play scruffy middle-aged journalist Mikael Blomkvist while actress Robin Wright is in talks to play the role of Erika Berger, editor of the leading finance magazine and lover of Craig’s character. Director David Finch will direct the film, based on the first book of the Millenium trilogy. The stories follow Lisbeth and Mikael as they work together to solve intricately-plotted mysteries.

Filming will take place in Sweden and the film will premiere stateside on December 21, 2011.
